In Windows Vista SP1 and XP SP3 the remote desktop client has been updated to version 6.1.  In this new version running mstsc /console to get to the console session no longer works. With RDP 6.1 you need to use the new /admin flag. 

To get to the console session run: mstsc /admin

Is there an updated version of the desktops snap-in for MMC?
The existing one is programmed to use the /console switch when wanting to connect to the console, so with the 6.1 RDP client update, it doesn't actually connect to the console...
