On my flight from Chicago to Los Angeles for the PDC Conference I had an opportunity to use American Airlines new GoGo in flight internet access. After some ground connectivity issues that lasted about the first hour of the flight and thanks to a determined flight attendant that told me when it was fixed I was able to get connected without any problems. All I had to do is turn on Wifi and connect to gogoinflight that was being broadcast throughout the plane. After I was connected it was just as if I was at a hotel. My web session was redirected to a sign in page where I had to pay $12.95 for unlimited use for the duration of my flight.
The sign up process was very simple and fast. The speed of the connection was also much faster than I anticipated for being 30,000 feet in the sky. Speed test showed the connection seemed to be capped with an average speed of 1,140 kb/s down and 255 kb/s up. at The connection latency is not that bad either with an average latency of 140 ms. Speed test details can be found here:
Overall, I highly recommend the service because there is nothing like being connected to the internet at 30,000 feet. The recovery of valuable work time is priceless. At $12.95 I would say the service is reasonably priced and has adequate speed to back it up.
Now if only American Airlines would offer this service on all of their flights, I would fly American all the time.
Oh, by the way, this review was posted from 30,000 feet somewhere over Colorado or Kansas.
