Though the company is not commenting on potential plans for thousands of job cuts, unconfirmed reports say that layoffs at the software giant could be announced between Thursday and next week. The Wall Street Journal reported that the company is "seriously exploring" significant work force reductions and "people familiar with (Microsoft's) plans" said the company is considering layoffs across its various divisions. The Journal said plans for the cutbacks are still "in flux," and that Microsoft could end up finding alternative methods of controlling its costs.
The Journal reports that the cuts are likely to be far less than the 15,000 positions that have been rumored in recent weeks.
